Andrea Zaccaro, PhD, Assistant Professor (RTDa, fixed-term)

I am a psychologist and obtained my PhD in Clinical Physiopathology from the University of Pisa in 2019. During my doctoral studies, I investigated the electrophysiological basis, using EEG, of states of consciousness associated with sleep and contemplative practices, including meditation and voluntary breath-control techniques, with particular attention to their psychological, neurophysiological, and cardiorespiratory effects.

Since 2024, I have been a researcher at the “G. d’Annunzio” University of Chieti–Pescara, where I study the neurophysiological basis of human interoception. My research primarily uses electroencephalography to investigate how respiratory signals influence interoceptive and exteroceptive attention, as well as their perceptual, cognitive, and emotional correlates.
