Andrea Zaccaro, PhD: Post-doctoral researcher, Psychologist

I earned a Master’s Degree in Clinical and Health Psychology in 2014 and completed a PhD in Clinical Physiopathology at the University of Pisa in 2019. Since 2021, I have been working as a post-doctoral researcher at the “Gabriele d’Annunzio” University of Chieti-Pescara and as a member of TEAM Lab.

My research focuses on human interoception and primarily utilizes Electroencephalography (EEG) to investigate the role of respiratory phases in cardiac interoceptive attention and exteroceptive perception. Specifically, I am dedicated to studying heartbeat evoked activity at the cortical level, including heartbeat evoked potentials and heartbeat evoked oscillations in the time-frequency domain. Furthermore, I am actively involved in developing and applying advanced methodologies to explore cortical activity and connectivity elicited by cardiac and respiratory rhythms during different forms of interoceptive attention, such as breath control and mindfulness-based practices. I am also keen on exploring their applications in clinical contexts.
